Hi blind I live in Seattle in a 2BR apartment. It's small and in a crap area. After split with my roommate I pay $750 rent and $80 utils. I'm considering moving to get out of this area, but it looks like an equivalent size of apartment somewhere else would run me ~1500-2000 a month. Do you think this is worth, or should I stay here and keep saving a ton of $$ for buying a place? I could buy a townhome now but it looks like my total cost per month would end up being $2800 after tax deduction for an $800k place. I don't know if such a big hit in cash flow is worth it. Dunno, looking to get out the crap area. Don't know if renting our buying is worth it considering I'd have to give up at least $1k/mo for that. Also my current commute is 10 minutes, wouldn't be able to afford that if I move to somewhere not as crap.
If the area is safe, savings of 1250 extra is great. You can improve your life in other ways or just keep treating yourself with latest things worth 1250. If you have a car, going to any place at any time is not a big deal, so it's ok to not pay premium. However it depends also on where your friends are, what are the priorities.
Keep that low rent as long as humanly possible
definitely dont buy.
I don't care much about the apartment itself than the area. I prefer a very old outdated small apartment in a great area over a nice new big one in a crap area. I'd leave the current apartment if the area is bad. It's really not worth saving extra grand a month.
Make this a poll please
I’m paying a little more for a 1B/1B but I think it’s well worth it especially if you can save time getting a place walking distance from work
Also a ton of apartments here are doing 1st month free on a 12 month lease so if they don’t initially offer it bring it up if it’s a place you like and it’ll save you a few hundred dollars per month long term
