After 7 weeks of job hunting, I received 2 offers. My gut failed to give me a decisive answer, so I drew decision trees, listed the pros and cons.. because they are such different jobs, it’s a bit comparing kiwis vs bananas. Here’s a little background, what would you choose? Or comment on how you made your decision if you had come across a similar choice. Company A: private company operating internationally, 50-80 employees company wide and about a dozen or so in their NY office I’ll be in. A lot of outsourced work so the hours look like 9:30-very late. 10 min walk from home. The role is account director. The clients’ industry (real estate) is interesting but relatively new to me, so there might be a longer learning curve. Boss and management style: more of a creative type, passionate and not very structured. My growth path will probably be a larger company in the same business in a few years. Company B: public company operating in US only, 500 or so employees nationwide and about 50 people in NY office. Looks more like a 9am-5pm situation. 30 min subway commute. The role is product manager. The clients’ industry (marketing and design) is more similar to my previous job, so it’ll likely be easier to pick up and at least short term this might be a more strategic position. Management: my direct supervisor seems more of a business type, more logical and structured. My growth path might be more opportunities internally. Both companies have been in business for 20+ years, in relatively growth to matured industries. Industry size and projected growth A slightly > B but not huge difference. Based on my brief interaction during the interviews, I liked both bosses, though it’s too early to tell who I might enjoy working with more over longer term as they are very different. The offers are mostly comparable, Company A has a “full-time with 3 months trial” condition but salary is $10K more, and is pushing for a decision this coming week.
It is ready if you say what company A and B is. This is blind side
Rofl
3 month trial? Wtf
Internal growth opportunities are better than having to get another job in a year
A already sounded like trash before the kicker of a "3 month trial" lol
Definitely. I cannot believe this is even a decision. There must be something really bad about company B he is not telling us.
If A isn’t your clear choice then go with B.
I don't do trials. So I would go with B
Fuck, u need to shorten ur question/description. Too long to read and vote!
Fuck the trial offer BS of company A. That's a red flag and a non starter. It is a no brainer.
The 3 months trial will be like the sword of Damocles hanging over your neck. Go with B unless you really like A
