Fascinating logic - New York was going to give Amazon roughly a 10% discount on its 20 year tax horizon. AOC thinks she should take this now non existent revenue and spend it on teachers? Why would you need teachers if people don’t have a job when they graduate? I mean, besides bartending. https://newyork.cbslocal.com/2019/02/14/amazon-new-york-city-deal-dead-amazon-hq2/
Lmao this butthurt is too good
They are in the exact same situation they were 3 months ago. Amazon is the one who got fucked with damaged PR for taking NYC at its word and not taking into account how deep the swamp is.
I wonder if she goes into a Wal-Mart and demands refunds for the discount on things she didn’t buy.
lol yeah bc the only job prospects in nyc were at amazon and now that they’re out there are no good jobs left 🤦🏻♂️
25,000 jobs with an average pay of over 100k, $30B in tax revenue, a company that will initiate software engineering courses across high schools in the greater NYC area, which will all lead to better infrastructure investments and more tech companies+talent being attracted to NYC. Yep, no big loss...
hahaha sure, corporations are definitely known for actually paying their fair share of taxes 😉 also by nyc standards that number of jobs at that pay rate (which tbh i think is high but whatever) is just not that impressive lmao. which is why i say go somewhere where that kind of influx of jobs would be meaningful!! :)
I’m on AOC’s side on this one. Corporate welfare is still welfare, but for those that need it least. Whether it’s a sports team getting public money for a stadium or amazon asking for incentives; I’m against it. In a free market corporations need to be able to thrive or fail on their own.
While I agree in principle with companies not getting handouts, bailouts, subsidies, etc, they were being offered a short term tax break as opposed to straight up cash. Do you consider taxes to be a free market thing at the level that NY state taxes? A lot of people would disagree with that, especially as high as taxes are in NY in general and how inefficiently they use the money.
It’s better known as a “volume discount.” It gives an entity leverage to receive better pricing. Companies will do the same as people and go where they are treated best.
Make bartending great again.
This is typical of Liberals. Kill something that had money allocated for it but then try to claim it as their own. That is precisely what I heard regarding killing the tax cut. They wanted to take the $1.5T and give everyone free healthcare with it despite it only being $150B per year that would make close to no impact on anything.
I'm no fan of AOC, but for all those bashing her and calling her stupid, a friendly reminder that she is way more successful than virtually everyone on this thread. Even at FANG, we are just doing a very mundane 9-5 job, while she is a congresswoman with millions of followers at just 30!
Can anyone confirm that the Amazon tax deal will result in a net loss in revenue or just a smaller gain? I'm not in favor of corporate welfare but a tech campus full of engineers will almost certainly be on the giving side in terms of taxation.
Net loss in revenue for NYC? Of course it will. The 20 year tax revenue from 25K people earning $150K would easily be $30B, not including the multiplier effect.
Our elected officials, ladies and gentlemen...
