Hi Guys,

I work in an IT consultancy near Amsterdam and was recently contacted by a facebook recruiter for a Solutions Architect role at Workplace in London. I initially agreed for an interview for about 5 days after she called me, but after realising how much I need to prepare, I requested her to move the interview a week. She agreed, but 2 days before the actual interview, she said the interviewer is not available and she will try to find someone else to interview me. Next day, I get an email saying sorry, the position has been already filled.

Now, I never imagined that I will work in a FAANG company, so obviously I am quite disappointed and thinking if I made a mistake moving my interview a week. Well, will never know I guess.

Anyways, this piqued my interest about FAANG in London and Zurich and I have spent the last couple of days looking up openings. I see an opening at Google London at the "Apigee" team that is quite close to what I am doing (Restful APIs, security, systems design etc.). Is anyone here by any chance working in that team or knows someone who works for that team? I am not looking for a referral but just a bit of knowledge about what they actually work on so I will be better prepared when I apply.

Cheers!

Why do you say so? Can you elaborate a bit please?

They were acquired. Majority of the engineers there don’t really meet the hiring bar(they didn’t have to interview). Leadership doesn’t seem to have a clear roadmap. They don’t follow the same processes as google. Like PRD, Design Docs, etc

I think Google’s procedure is general (leetcode for SWEs, etc.) worldwide so you only have to prepare first before tailoring for specific teams

Hmmm that might indeed be correct. The thing is that I have not been a ‘conventional’ coder anytime in my career, and if what you said is indeed true, I don’t know if I stand any chances.

Try to look up for the general procedure for your role, like Solution Architect

Yep that would be my preferred role, but seems like Google doesn’t have any Solutions Architect role open. The thing is that it is a bit difficult from someone from just API, Security background to break into FAANG, because the FAANG companies are focused on Webdev+API work, as far as I could see. Would appreciate some guidance there from someone experienced

Apply first. Only worry about the specifics once Google show some interest in your application.
