Affordability of a Model 3

Wife and I commute in opposite directions. Got 2 cars between us. All paid off. Looking to upgrade 1 of them as that car requires more maintenance, but not sure if it would be a good financial move to get a Model 3 or something like a civic.

need opinions.

Total TC: 310k

Model 3, nothing else. If your round trip commute is ~60-70 miles, you don't even need to install any special charges at home, just the regular 110v outlet will recharge by that much overnight. Once you drive a Tesla, you'll never think of buying another car.

I concur, Tesla spoils you. Even something small as the lack of engine noise spoils you enough to hate ICE cars.

Home charger is still needed for the sudden trips or occasional long trips. 110v outlet charges at 2-3 miles / hour

@Rooot, I get 5 miles/hour. See if plugging into a different outlet makes a difference. Maybe the difference is 20A vs 15A?

5-6 miles/hour sounds about right. NEMA with 32amps will give you around 35 miles/hour

Either of those won’t affect your financial situation in a meaningful way. Buy what you like.

Model 3 is equivalent to a Camry in 3 years.

A Camry in 3 years might be equal to model 3 today but not a model 3 in 3 years ;)

Think twice before buying a model three if you don’t have a charger at home.

I have a model 3 and a charger at home. If you can charge at work, that works too. The expenses are way less than what I used to spend on my accord, primarily because of gas vs electricity costs. In the long run, maintenance kicks in.

The car gets a software update every month or two. Makes me feel like a new car with major upgrades. The long drives on this thing is so awesome! Put on autopilot/auto steer and keep an eye on everything, no active engaging 100% of the time. I know people say it’s not safe but it’s down to you as a driver - how comfortable you are and how you drive.

DM me for a referral if you are getting any Tesla.

Have a Model 3 and have never charged at home. Charging at work is free. Plus Tesla superchargers everywhere. Free supercharging miles from referral also help.

$0 cost of ownership for the past 6 months - 0 in gas or electricity and car servicing is once in 2 years!

Don’t rely on regular supercharging. It would fuck up your car battery. Supercharging depreciates battery life sooner than normal chargers because of high current. Ask Tesla, they’ll say the same thing. Heck read the manual, it says the same thing.

Agree. 95% of the time is the free charging at work.

Does total total total compensation mean that it combines total total compensation from different couples?

This’s bullshit. They don’t add car depreciation, insurance and registration costs. This will add around 4-8k at least.

If you can put in a charger at your home (Something as simple as a NEMA 14-50 works) then get the 3.
