After 2 rounds of phone interview with Airbnb, HR sent that “Unfortunately, your qualifications are not a match for the role at this time”. I am confused if it is really because the role didn’t match or the 2nd interview didn’t go well.
HR didn’t respond when asked for feedback. I was able to come up with optimal solution with no hints. Also, compiled and tested code for various test cases. Interviewer was also happy. Did anyone had a similar experience?
I was with another shadow interviewer. As the candidate was going through his thought process, we suggested somewhat better way (still same runtime complexity tho) but he literally said no I don’t want that way I will go with my solution. We were okay with it, but we both felt that the candidate was quite stubborn, maybe arrogant in some way that we don’t want to work with this guy.
Next interviewer was 5 min late. The interviewer asked him if he needs time for restroom or water, but the candidate said, “no, you are 5 min late. Let’s go straight to the question so that I can have enough time to solve”. It was not just three of us. All of the other interviewers feedback was like this. “He seems technically very strong, but I wouldn’t want to work with this guy”
In cases like this, I don’t think HR will give you honest feedback.
You may not remember everything you said. Even if you didn’t say anything wrong, bad decisions can be made.
