Already signed with google. Will I get blacklisted if I pull out?

I'm sde2 at amazon but got an offer for L3 at google and I signed (higher comp than sde2 at amazon). I signed the offer letter (does that count as the contract? It's long and has all the conditions etc..). I then interviewed at facebook and got E5 with 1.5x the comp of google so I really want to go. Will I get black listed if I pull out from google?

Please no comments about what I should have done. What happened has happened.

Cheers!

Edit: position in London and I have 5 yoe

Just go with the better offer. They're not going to suffer too much. They're a fucking mega corporation. Think about yourself first. Most importantly go with the job that you would love most

Even awesome SDEs sometimes do poorly in interviews - having a bad day on interview day would F your chances. Also our interview process is such crapshot process, I'm not surprised.

There is always a risk in pulling out.

L3 at google will be boring.

However if you got l3 at google but e5 at fb, the risk might be that you’re not ready for e5 and will get piped in one or two halves.

I think that's a really good point. I am definitely not L3 though. I'm a high sde2 at amazon with previous experience in other big companies. What down leveled me in the interviews (according to them) is rusty coding eventhough I did good in system design. I've been leading projects lately rather than doing most of the coding myself and was writing code in 3 or 4 different languages so my java APIs were rusty and they held it against me. Honestly how rusty your API knowledge is shouldn't be a deterministic factor in leveling.

With that level, you would definitely be bored at L3 then

I would honestly tell them. You accepted the offer at a lower level since higher comp. Unfortunately another company has come along and given you the TC/title you deserved. I don't think there's any negotiating with google at This point, the differences in asks are too high (L+2, 1.5x TC). Tell them the truth, any other reasonable human being would do the same thing in your situation(renege). Tell them youd love to interview in the next couple of years for a better fit. People have families to take care of, TC/title is important.

I wouldn't be surprised if Google suggested two more interviews with the chance to uplevel to L4 with corresponding TC match.

This just shows how bad the interview process is. L3 at Google and E5 at Fb. What the.. Google and their down leveling. It's disrespectful honestly

They will continue doing this as long as there are people like ITGw07 above.

Lol intel doesn’t pay anything, how is that for disrespect

First I'm at Airbnb because of the same exact reason you mentioned. I gtfo like everyone else. Intel indeed doesn't pay anything and people are leaving. But Google? People are accepting low ball offers and huge down levels just for the name and Google is getting away with it. That's the disrespectful part.

      We're talking about 1.5x. 250 vs 380. Not a tough decision.

E5 vs L3 is a no brainer. Go to FB. Just talk to the Google recruiter and update them about the situation. Don’t focus on the money. After you have accepted an offer, going back on money is not a great idea! Two levels up is a good reason.

Why on earth do you even care about being blacklisted by a company that doesn't even value your experience? L3 for 5 yoe is literally telling you "hey, we think you wasted 5 years at amzn. Let restart everything here."

I would say discuss it with your google recruiter to get a better offer. If they don’t give you a better offer, have no hesitation in taking FB.

Ditch them and email the recruiter you renege because they play down level trick too hard. They need enough data points to change strategy. Otherwise if everyone is taking these ridiculously down leveled offers, they will keep doing that.

No blacklist. I accepted an offer and pulled out ... Six months later I approached again and they were willing to extend an offer without re interviewing.
