Hi everyone, I'm from India, and I just got an offer to relocate to Seattle, Washington through an intra company transfer. They're offering me a salary of 120,000 USD. I know that this can be vague without knowing what work I do on a daily basis, so here's an overview. I'm a full time software developer with 10 years of experience. The technology stack I work on is: Java, J2EE, Spring, Angular. I've a good amount of experience in software design, architecture in the area of microservices and built several apps deployed to cloud. Industry: Financial Services. Would you guys please be able to help me evaluate if the compensation they're offering me is decent for my experience? Thank you all in advance and have a great day!
It’s low but not absolutely terrible. You maybe could negotiate to 150k. At some point you should look to join a FAANGMULA where your TC could double or triple. But, this company will be good to get your foot in the door.
Thank you. I'll definitely try to negotiate.
What all companies come under FAANGMULA?
What is the total compensation per year?
Total I'm being told is 120k. I do get medical and dental insurance covered by the employer. But that's about it. Nothing else.
Don’t move to Seattle with that pay. Your standard of living will be low. Also the city is overcrowded.
Thank you.
It’s very low for 10 YoE *but* you will at least be in the US and able to find other opportunities, although you should ask them for H1B or PERM as soon as you’re here as L1 won’t allow you to switch companies ...
This. I don't know why people are discouraging offers like these for ppl abroad but this gets them the foot in the door at least. After a while they can look around and switch to different opportunity as needed.
Thank you. Yes, this does give me the opportunity to move into US and as suggested, will surely explore these options.
Move first let h1b kick in then change employer. You have to be physically here to do onsite interviews
Thank you.
That’s 🥜
😀 thank you.
With a senior level experience in java stack you can definitely try other full time opportunities in west coast. So just find the right time to move to other company.
Thank you.
Agreed- use it to get into US. Leetcode for a year, then start interviewing at FAANGMULA companies.
Thank you.
Once in the US you can start aiming higher -> levels.fyi
Thank you
At the end of the day you’re worth what someone will pay you. 120k is low, but financial services generally doesn’t have good developers.
Ok, Thank you. Have a good day.
