Moved to silicon valley(san francisco) recently and am blown away with general lifestyle in the city when it comes to health and well being. I grew up in a place where life is very slow, people have maids and are lazy and fat. But here, people are generally well groomed and fit. They seem to get done a lot through the day. I just don’t get how. Is there a hack I am missing? I have a low stress work but don’t seem to get much done when it comes to fitness or eating healthy at home. Find it extremely hard to keep up with the momentum around. Its leading to a loss of self esteem as well since I find myself increasingly unhappy about how I look or dress, in general about myself. Anyone been through same? What helped? suggestions?
You grew up in a place where people have maids and are lazy and fat? Awesome! I guess you moved to the right city. It’s normal to feel uncomfortable, you have just been pushed out of your comfort zone. Time to change and learn some life skills. I would say meet more people and make friends who can teach you how to be independent in life.
Amen!
Hmmm don’t everyone just wear jeans and a company branded t-shirt or hoody? Add some sort of backpack and you’ll fit right in. Do some running. And brunch.
Find exercises you enjoy. For example, I tried to lift and I couldn't get into it. I began running and look forward to it on most days. The best routine is the one you can enjoy because it'll be the one you can stick to. Same goes for food. Find healthy substitutes for what you're having. Maybe spend a little extra on eating healthy if you eat out. Think of it as investment because it will pay dividends in terms of self esteem. Look into sous vide and intermittent fasting. A combination of both will help as well. Sleeping well every night helps a lot too. Also start reading and build on what you think makes you smart. Helped me a lot with being shy/anxious because there's no real reason to. It's all about the little hacks. Make it happen. No excuses.
Thanks.
Where do people have maids?
India. Very common for middle class to have one. Upper middle would have full time maid, house cleaner/cook and driver.
If someone else can do, so can you. One stop comparing yourself to others. Two, get going - work, eat, workout and repeat.
Simply quite being lazy
It is usually a good idea to be push to improve yourself even if you are not measured up, over time you'll get there, and you'll be glad in the long run. Welcome.
Why the fuck do you care what others do. Do what you want to do and fuck them
Get yourself tested if you have any deficiencies. I was severely low in vitamin D. It made a world of difference in my energy levels. I have heard similar stories with deficiency in Magnesium, Vitamin B12 etc.
Hire a personal trainer?
They are very expensive in the city (70-100 bucks per session). Did not think about it seriously for that reason.
Get a gym membership and go to group classes, cheaper and you meet people.
