Amazon 2 years promotion

Recently heard that Amazon is promoting almost any decent engineer with overall of 2 years experience to SDE2. Is that right ?

Yea why not. You are expected to grow to SDE2 around 2 years. 3+ years SDE1 will get booted most likely.

Sure, that's reasonable for someone in Amazon for 2 years. What I've heard is that people with 2-3 years experience get a job as SDE1 and immediately move to SDE2 . The frequency of that happening is much higher than you'd expect

Immediately? If you are really good then you can probably be promoted in 1.5 years since you need to deliver stuff to prove yourself worthy, and review cycle takes time. Fastest maybe 1 year if everything aligns perfectly.

My co worker has been sde1 for 2 years and 7 months. I m hoping he will get promoted soon for his sakes

Not happening in Opstech I know good SDEs working extra hours for 2 yrs and managers still haven’t discussed with them about promo. I guess it has a very high bar.
