So, I got an offer for L6 Sr PM position which at best will match my current TC given no state tax in Seattle. Salary bump is a major factor in planning this switch for me along with joining one of the FAANG. Don’t get me wrong I have come a long way as a PM without any MBA and engineering from an ok college in India. Worked as a developer, then as a BA then as a PM and now GPM. In the process I have discovered great success in taking ideas to production with great collaboration with engineers ( I get along with them given my tech background) and stakeholders (ability to speak execs language I am told). Now I want to experience working at core technology companies with best minds in the world as they say 😊, May sound cheesy but hey I haven’t tasted what it’s like to be at FAANG. So question: my recruiter is trying to have me interview for L7( Principle PM) to match salary expectations. He mentioned possibility of early promotion few times in attempt to convince me to take L6 offer ( could be just bluffing). HOW MUCH DIFFERENCE IS THERE IN L6 and L7 in terms of interview difficulty, compensation, responsibilities, does this role have people responsibility? What happens if I don’t clear the L7 level interview? TIA YoE:13 TC: 280k in LA
L7 PM here. Good luck! Interview: It’s going to depend a lot on the team/org. Are you looking at Prime Video? Other? The bar and difficulty will vary due to domain expertise. If you got it, I say go for it! If not, take L6. The interview will be much tougher in that they expect very large scope and impact. Let me put it another way, in the L6 debrief, if the loop thought you met the L7 bar, they could discuss upleveling. It’s very rare but happens. It SOUNDS like the recruiter is offering an L7 loop for comp expectations. If so, I think your chances are a bit low. I’m assuming your L6 offer will not expire when you try for L7 (have fallback) People management: Depends. Many IC roles. Comp: Depends if technical or not. A technical PM (PMT) is $280k-$400-ish. External probably come in around $320-350k from what I’ve seen on Blind.
Super helpful. Thanks. No it’s not prime video. I have enterprise background, so another enterprise team at Amazon. Recruiter also mentioned great feedback and strong chances of early promotion given what has he seen for similar candidates in the past. I do have people reporting to me currently and as GPM I am in business of having to influence peers without authority. I am feeling confident but I know there is huge difference in Disney way of leading people and Amazon way. So for L7 350k is achievable? And if I don’t quiet meet L7 bar, will it play in favor to increase the TC for L6 or they don’t do that?
1) don’t listen to recruiter at all about promo. But I think you know this :) that said, if you’re a rockstar, you can likely make it in 1.5-2 years. But a lot is also out of hands - eg your team loses funding or prioritization shifts so you can’t deliver. 2) Comp: There is a strict comp band for offers. Sounds like you’re at the L6 max already. Comp that is out of band is purely due to stock growth. Sorry. For L7, I’ve seen offer on Blind at $350k for PMT. I’m assuming you’re technical since you have SDE background. If PM role, then probably more like $320k
Do you get any perks for working at Disney?
Hi Mate I have an onsite coming up for L6 , do you mind if I DM you for some tips
So recruiter just texted me yesterday saying he is not able to get hold of Hiring Manager to discuss if they can interview me for L7 and will get back to me by Friday. Does this mean on Friday he will share not so favorable news and give me an option to take or leave L6 offer? 🤔
It’s anyone’s guess! Keep us posted.

How can my idiot brother who does real estate afford this
disney pay that much!?
I don’t have to lie on Blind, do I?
They are hiring MBAs so I imagine they must be paying decent. And OP seems to have demonstrated a good track record and promotion to GPM.
