Amazon L6 vs L7

I got a job offer as L6. however I believe that with my 15+ years of experience and reporting to a VP at Amazon and people in similar role at Amazon are at L7, I should be at L7. Do you know if hiring manager (VP) can make change after interview, if so, how should I negotiate?

What is your current TC and offer TC?

Recruiter did not share TC with me and asked my expectation. I am meeting with recruiter tomorrow. What is high end of L6 comp and low end of L7?

Few things to think about: - Did you know what level are you interviewing for at Amazon beforehand? - Have you had the level upgrade conversation with recruiter?.. or possibly with your HM? - Are you an IC or SDM/Engg Manager? Seperately have known people with your YOE (SDM) being promised the promotion to L7 in a year or so of joining at L6 - and they have achieved it too.

I discussed with recruiter today and we agreed that I should have discussion with Hiring manager, planning to have that tomorrow. Recruiter told me that it is very difficult to change level after interview. However you can have a discussion with manager to have promotion within 6 months

OP - that sounds reasonable..I've heard this kinda promotion happen previously, but in 12 months. Also, reporting directly to VP is never a bad thing for these kinda issues. All the best mate! 😌

They'll compensate L7 salary at L6. My friend did it.

Awesome that helps

Do you know TC for your friend

L6 to L7 at Amazon is a hard promotion, so push for it now. To get you to L7, they may need you to interview again. You have to decide if you are willing to walk away.

Intel ron1978 Jan 14, 2019

Recruiter also told me that for L7 I might to interview again

Intel ron1978 Jan 14, 2019

Should I tell Recruiter range of TC say 370 to 380 or a fixed no?

Every level change in Amazon is massive, both in terms of deliverables and salary. It’s a practise to always hire a person lower a level to ensure success. Nothing wrong in that, as long as you are the person for the challenge the promotion is round the corner. Look for long term success, things change rapidly in Amazon. Best of luck.
