That is the whole point of the signing bonus that you get in year 1 and year 2. It is supposed to 'fill in' for the fact the the vesting schedule is back loaded to year 3 and 4.
Facebook offers a singing bonus and 25%/year. Amazon people just convice themselves that it's there to fill the gap
No, we know it is there to fill the gap with Amazon compensation which we signed an offer for. There is inherent risk in working to a 20% every 6 months, like... getting rated out. Everyone should ensure they analyze offers they get and choose what is best for them. I don’t dislike the vesting schedule.

I’m not chained. I don’t have that compensation until it vests. It’s all in your head, if the cash now compensation isn’t what you want - don’t sign.
This vesting structure has made me a very rich little code monkey. No complaints here. I suspect they will start to go more towards 25/25/25/25 because everyone is being ridiculously overpaid here in years 3 and 4 with 5/15/40/40 (works out to about 2x target comp in my case and I suspect I’m not alone).
It doesn’t make a difference to them if it’s 25*4 or 5/15/40/40 especially since they’re still on the line for the same number of RSUs (I.e. they give you same number totally regardless of vesting schedule). If anything you’d make more slightly more money by getting 25*4 and holding (since gains will be taxed at Long term capital gains instead of income tax whenever you sell). If you’re saying comp decreases in 5th year because year 3,4 comp is really high, then that makes sense and they’ll likely switch to 25*4.
I think more likely they’ll just stop doing up front four year grants.
