Amazon SDM, declined but positive feedback. They recommended changing jobs?

I recently had my on-site and just got my feedback. The recruiter said I fit the leadership profiles really well but they think I should quit my current company to get different exposure first. She clarified that it's not ability, but exposure. She said the interviewers all liked me as well. She also recommended I consider applying for TPM roles. Has anyone received similar feedback? Does the standard waiting period apply when applying for different jobs?

Considering that they are usually not supposed to provide feedback... for what it's worth you seem to have impressed them. I would think it is a problem of scope: either your current company does not allow flexing (e.g. process over innovation) or the work is too small to challenge you. TPM suggestion also means that (edit: people management, not coding, I read as SDE at first) was meh, system design was good and the way you solved problems was by bringing everyone together. That's my take. Check with recruiter on timelines to retry.
