Amazon Seattle offer wants me to give first number
YOE 6 TC 130k I got downleveled from SDE2 to SDE1. They want me to give first number for compensation. Is this normal? What should I tell them? I'm inclined to study more and reapply in 6 months.

With 6 yoe, SDE 1 is not right thing. Just don't accept it. They will come back with SDE 2
So I should reject? I was planning to try and get as high a number out of them as possible to leverage for other interviews. Not planning to join as SDE1
If you are not joining , go ahead and do negotiations and finally tell them that you got to take the other offer since its better than this. They might come back to give you SDE 2 , if you have counter offer.
SDE I is Level 4 or entry level SDE or fresh out of college (I’m a BR and interview for these positions quite a bit).

Depending on your project it can be laid back or everything on fire. Promotions are a little slow.
