Saw a guy with an AWS ReInvent shirt sitting in a business class seat.

If you fly economy a lot, you get status with airlines which puts you at the front of the line for free upgrades. Maybe he got an upgrade?
If it was a Delta flight the internal program upgrades you to silver status basically instantly. Search on inside.
I've found most airlines will auto upgrade you in most flights once you hit "member" status

Reinvent is for clients, and they get expensed by their own company because it’s a business event.
