Amazon relocation lump sum

Got L6 offer@Seattle
Moving from Bay Area to Seattle

Graebel contacted me for relocation and offered 2 options for fully covered vs lump sum
Lump sum I am offered is $10,500

From other threads on blind , ppl were saying lumpsum is $15k? Is this standard in amazon or is there negotiation involved in this as well?

Also, say if I quit before 1 year, do I need to repay relocation?

    Standard, no negotiable
15k is for international. For domestic it is 10k which comes down to 6800 after taxes
Don't take lumpaum unless you have already started paying rent in Seattle
Go for fully covered, as it covers couple of months of initial accommodation in addition to large number of other benefits.
I know several people who took fully covered, none regret. I know several took lum sum, all of them regret.
Again only exception is if you have already place and everything else settled down in Seattle

Wait, IIRC they cover only 2 weeks not 2 months for the initial stay.

For L5-L6 , it says 45 days and additional 15 days if location is Seattle. So total is 60 days

took the fully covered service. It was awesome. Free trip for house hunting, local guider. Covered first 45 days rent, some money for home improvement for my old house. Auto and household moving were just awesome, so professional. I saw their note on some paperwork states something like “this is a VIP customer, need to make sure their satisfaction” u cannot imagine how serious they wrap my household goods, like they customized a wooden crate for my 20 bucks IKEA mirror.....also, my spouse got a free career coach which helped her find a job in amazon later as well...

^^^ This is correct. Changed in the last couple of months.

To answer your second question, if you leave before two years you will owe back a pro-rated amount of your relocation amount.

Is there a calculation for pro ration? I am trying to weigh in the options in case I don’t like Seattle

The calculation is listed in your offer letter. If you’ve been talking to Graebel they should have made you sign something attesting to the fact that you read that particular clause about repayment in the offer letter.

I took the fully covered service- got 90 days of corporate housing right on Lake Union complete with housekeeping. The total value of my relo was around $65k. I’m L6 and was able to negotiate the package.

Thanks for valuable information! Did you negotiate this before accepting the offer ? And how long ago was this ?
      Jun 26
    • Amazon Dhlf30
I was able to negotiate the corporate housing and the cash for incidentals- this was before accepting the offer. They were more willing to negotiate this then my TC. This was about 9 months ago.

If you leave before 2 years, you have to return the prorated value of 65k?

Yep or get my new company to cover whatever is left

I got 7K lump sum mostly because I told them I own a house. So I went full service since I need to sell the house.

      Jul 10
    • The Home Depot FPQk51
I was offered a choice. Either lump sum or full service. the Recruiter told me upfront that a move with family and owning a house the lump sum of even $10K wasn't going to cover everything and I agree. Definitely getting more bang for buck with full service.

For sure. But remember, if you leave before 2 years, you will need to return the prorated amount of total expenses, not 7k.

Got an offer yesterday. Moving internationally. Lump sum is $7000. A friend within the same org had an offer 2~3 months ago and got $10000. Too bad!

$2600 for me. Not sure about my friend but I remember something around $4000.

Check the terms carefully. You payback a prorated sign on bonus if you leave within 12 months but relocation is 18 months.

      OP
I have read the offer letter and terms ...relocations is 24months..there is no repayment of signon bonus..signon bonus is paid at every paycheck(equally distributed ) and if I leave before 1 or 2nd year, the remaining won’t be paid(obvious)

BTW note if you do lump sum, you can still get separate reimbursement for your travel to your destination, for example I drive and got the miles and a few nights of hotel and meals covered
    Jun 26 6
    • Amazon / Product l7e5
Hmm I don't know then. They just told me since I was driving they'd cover the miles and a few nights of hotel and meals. Even when I logged in, it showed space to reimburse for flight, had I chosen to fly

Take relo, if you pass up corporate housing and jump straight into renting they pay up to 75 days no matter rental cost. That alone is worth at least 7 grand.

      OP
That’s not true. Policy document says amazon will pay the rent for up to amount of days you’re approved for temporary housing so that’s 60 days

I chose lumpsum but reading this post, I am thinking I should've chosen fully covered. Is it something I can still change? I accepted the offer and already received 5k but H1 transfer is in RFE.

Does Amazon still offer that luxurious full cover relocation package? My friend at Amazon transferred to NYC and got put in a luxury 5k+/month apartment for 30 days, personal consultant for finding a place, and of course moving and flight fees covered. Lump sum is probably still financially better for most people but that's pretty sweet.
