Amazon vs Cloudera New Grad SDE Offer

I recently got offers from Amazon and Cloudera for New Grad position. Looking for advise on which one to accept and any scope to negotiate with Amazon (SDE-1) position. Amazon Offer (Seattle HQ): Base: 112k Joining Bonus: 26k First Year, 22k Second Year Relocation: 7k Stocks: 80k/4 years (5/15/40/40)% Bonus: No info on Offer letter Cloudera Offer (Palo Alto HQ): Base: 130k Joining Bonus: 30k Relocation: 5k Stocks: 140k/4 years Bonus: 10% Amazon will assign me a team 60 days before start date so the only thing I am informed is that I will be at Seattle HQ. I am not sure which team/org I will get assigned to. At Cloudera I interviewed with my team and liked the product/role I will work on. Looking for advice on which is better to join as a New Grad from Career perspective.

Why do these seem low?

PayPal Coddy OP Dec 13, 2019

Standard offer from Amazon. Would like to Negotiate on Location and get to Amazon A9.com Palo Alto office. If possible

Did the negotiation work?

Amazon nicerly Dec 12, 2019

WhAt is YOE? Base can go to at least of 120 and at most 130k

Amazon tenseflows Dec 12, 2019

It's the standard new grad offer, non negotiable

PayPal Coddy OP Dec 13, 2019

I feel learning at cloudera will be huge.

PayPal Coddy OP Dec 13, 2019

I feel the same too and couple of people on LinkedIn told me the same. But here on blind people have different perspective it seems.

The only thing you would learn is that it is good to read Glassdoor reviews before making such decisions.

No comparison - Cloudera is a dying company.

Cloudera isn't Cloudfare. Think you're getting them confused

PayPal Coddy OP Dec 19, 2019

Could you elaborate what you meant? I have no idea on Cloudflare.

Deloitte V.Y Dec 19, 2019

Hey! As you can see many on this thread(even Cloudera folks) have posted about Clouderas current and future state as well as the outlook on the services they provide. Cloudfare on the other hand is a strong company, just went through an IPO and have a bright pipeline of tech as well as a revenue model. There will be plenty of interesting work they will execute to expand on the recent IPO and elevate the shareholder values. 2 very different companies. Want to know more, just search Blind threads on Cloudera

Cloudera vjehf24 Dec 12, 2019

We are not dying. We are almost dead.

PayPal Coddy OP Dec 13, 2019

Hi @vjehf24 I have been following the stock movement and sentiment around Cloudera. It seems that things have started to stabilize after merger and Stock is having positive movement now. Why do you suggest being away from Cloudera ?

Cloudera vjehf24 Dec 13, 2019

The cloud providers are eating Cloudera. They are competing against RDS and Bigquery on Cloud and snowflake for SaaS. The result you see is just because they merged with their only competitor and have jacked up the prices. But those customers would eventually move away with those prices

Cloudera eukapos Dec 12, 2019

Don't go to cloudera

Cloudera vjehf24 Dec 12, 2019

You still in Cloudera ?

PayPal Coddy OP Dec 13, 2019

@eukapos why would you suggest the same ? Can you tell me why not Cloudera ?

Cloudera VJeh24 Dec 14, 2019

This is your first job. It’s fine if you’re only there a couple of years. Cloudera is dying but I think a new grad will learn a lot there in two years and the work is interesting in a”final roll of the dice let’s try everything” way. Amazon is amazon for better or worse. For me this comes entirely down to where you’d rather live.
