Hi, I got offer from Microsoft (level 60) and Amazon Alexa (L4). Microsoft is giving close to 160 TC Amazon is planning to give more than Microsoft (offer is not out yet) Which one I should prefer considering career growth ? Is it really worth it to reject Microsoft for some extra thousands of dollars ?
Microsoft generally has a better work/live balance, does annual bonus, actual 401k match (50% up to the legal max, instant vest) and will give you raises each year. Amazon has a better location, moves faster, and has generally better internal tools. W/L balance is really team dependent. I worked at Amazon for 2 years and then switched to Microsoft. If money’s not a factor, pick based on the team and manager.
That's the right answer right here. Project/team/manager should be your number one priority at this point in your career. The first project you start working on right out college will often dictate where your whole career will bring you. Accepting a job working on a dieing technology in a product nobody cares about will not be good for your long term career (even if that team offer you a slightly higher starting salary)
Microsoft will negotiate and match L4 offers for level 60.
But I already accepted the MS offer 2 days back
In that case, I'd just continue with Microsoft and move to any other company in 1-2 years. You can reduce the difference in TC by maxing your 401k and getting extra 9500 per year from Microsoft. Avoid Amazon, there are many companies with similar technical challenges and better benefits, pay, wlb and culture than Amazon. Think Uber, Lyft, Facebook, Netflix, Twitter.
If you already accepted the MS offer then what are you doing here?
Ya this decision is made. OP should have waited to accept though so they could negotiate the offers off each other.
Microsoft
Dont renege on an offer. With ms, and college hires specifically, there is a separate process where if a college hire reneges the position just goes away because there isnt an immediate hire to fill it. So, with how often people move between these companies, that person you fuck may show up as your manager or skip at Amazon and put your nuts in a vice. Go to ms. Work a year, figure out what you want to do and then move. Tons of opportunities in ms and other companies besides Amazon as well. Places that treat their employees like humans.
You might end up working a lot harder at Amazon than at MS but you will get to learn a lot. Considering that you're a NCG, Amazon would be a good place for you. Don't worry too much about compensation at this stage in your career. You can always go to MS later.
Start with the highest possible offer, things will follow
