Looks like I am going to get my gc in 150 years. Any forecast the dates would move a few years ahead? Currently at 2009. My priority date is 2016. Before someone comments stop cribbing blah blah this post is not for you. You can move on. Any anticipation or forecast or do I have to wait for gc till retirement?
Dr Strangelove - how to stop worrying and love the h1
Without change in law it will not move ahead. Priority date 2016 will be reached atleast after 20 yrs of wait. Guess what, you cannot wait here till retirement: 1. High chances that many ppl waiting will lose jobs on next recession and will have to forcibly get kicked out 2. Also highly likely that skills that you have now will not be the in-demand or specialty skills for next 20+ yrs and you hence you will eventually be denied H1b renewal or a new perm application when you shift jobs. Good luck waiting for GC
Marry someone who’s a citizen?
Married already :) I would rather move with my spouse to another country or go back to my home country than marry for citizenship. Yes US is great but not even so much as to sell my integrity.
Then you’re fucked sideways 😂
I am on h1 for last 13 years and a priority date of 2010. Have spent most of my adult life in this country, have kids who are us citizens and followed every immigration debate that has happened in the last 15 years. And I can tell you that you will not get a gc with the honest eb2/3 route in your lifetime. I am already working on a plan to leave this country and go back. Your only other option is to either go the eb5 route (which has its own risks) or marry a us citizen (if you aren’t married already). If neither of these work then just have kids and hope that they’ll be able to sponsor you once they turn 21.
Very real picture. I will rather take my skills and move to another country or my home country if I see no hope in the next 10 years. Really really sad but ugly truth. Biggest concern is home. We invest so much in home specially in tier 1 cities.
EB-5 is a bad deal. Why would you invest 500k-1mil at-risk to get same flexibility that you already have on H1-B just for a piece of document. When other nationalities can get it for free.
Good point but we have so much invested here. Home mortgages, citizen kids their schools.. though I completely agree with you it is not easy :(
Wait until 2022. The chances of passing a reasonable bill is high when Democrats take the house and win presidency. They have a lot of pressure to give citizenship to illegals and they would have to do something reasonable for EBs to appear rational
If nothing happens by 2022 I am leaving this country
Democrats are going to do fuckall because all they care about is their Mexican vote block. Pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants does not have popular support in the country, so it will never pass. Some more partisan bickering and then the republicans can fuck it up even more when they win again.
When it gets to the 2013, it'll get worse.
Why?
The number of f1 students from India exploded during that period.
What are the chances of a skill based system coming in? And by when?
What is it that’s keeping you in the us? Don’t tell me it’s investments because you can still invest remotely. Seems to me you don’t know fundamentally why you are wanting to stay here, besides inertia. If you figure out, you’ll know the answer. And no, I wouldn’t wait 20 years for a green card. That’s modern day slavery. Why stay in a relationship where you know you are not wanted?
I think it is the hope.. it is actually a carrot thing. We have invested SO many years that somewhere we keep feeling what if something happens by magic and dates become current.. we will waste all these years of investment. For me really my kid is American and I want my kid to get American education.. know history of this country. Once my kid is 21 I will be done really. I will be on my way.
Lol. I see my younger self in you, son.
You got your gc ?
Nope. It won’t get current in our lifetime unless congress passes an immigration reform and or remove per country cap. Neither Republicans nor Democrats have vested interest in fixing the system. The same status quo will apply as it has in the 8 years. The best you can hope for is USCIS wakes the fuck up and blocks EB1-C and EB1-B loopholes which are eating up the quota.
