Hi Team, I am thinking about an opportunity in oracle bare metal Cloud Team and wanted your feedback about culture, growth opportunities, work life balance and compensation.
I interviewed and rejected the offer, I am going somewhere else soon, I feel like those folks are smart but a lot of the interviewers were cool aid drinkers (we are a startup with oracle money, we are cool), if you are good at interviewing go to Facebook or google
WLB is great. Some dicks with egos here (not management but peers and management does nothing about it). It’s alright if you’re getting paid a lot but unfortunately, I’m not.
I haven’t even been to interview yet so no idea what compensation will look like. More than anything I am looking for the opportunity to sculpt the oracle Cloud with my own hands so that I can brag about it to my grandkids.
Entirely possible just make sure you’re getting paid a lot a lot otherwise navigating the red tape isn’t fun.
@All Thanks for your valuable feedback. I appreciate it :)
I know three people who went there from MSFT and two of them want to leave (badly). According to them initial RSU package was great but refreshers are not, there is no bonus and in general they feel the company doesn't care too much about them once you are hired. All of them had only good things to say about immediate team. Location / traffic is a problem too.
Eastsiders don't like Seattle commute.
Location is only really an issue if you don't want to use mass transit. Right next to the light rail and on 3rd where most major bus lines go. As for the experience, depends on team and type of work. I have worked with some outstanding people, and some complete assholes. Some assholes are also competent, but usually horrifically not. Some teams are really focused and well run, and some are self inflicted violent combustion. Like any other organization there is good and bad. All depends on where you are going and what you are doing
I have a close friend who transferred to BMC from Aws, he tells me the initial rsus are good, he was an l5 at amazon and now makes more than L6. But the team is in a disarray, management are there for the big money, bad/no code reviews in the portal team. Tagging is a shit show.
Tell me more. :)
Been at BMC for a year now. Some managers are really good, some are real shit, not sure how they were hired as managers. There is a huge communication gap between upper management and managers and there is no clear short term vision. I ended up doing shit tasks that were automated at Amazon. Things change constantly and there’s a power battle which goes on most times. IMO, if you’re making a ton of money than amazon / msft and you don’t care about crappy work, this place is good for you. If you care a bit about what you work on and the pay difference isn’t great, it doesn’t make sense to come here for the extra 10k or 20k.
I personally feel it's a great place. Lots of room to grow. Good people for the most part. Interesting things to work on. It's a fantastic place to be.
I am one of the unlucky one to have shitty manager in bmc. Management doesn’t even control weirdos here and incompetent managers stick to politics
You keep talking about good and bad managers; can you share who these are, both bad and good. It would be helpful for people considering joining
In Seattle? Their French manager is a weirdo but it’s a cool team, lots of them have very direct... very blunt personalities so if you can’t deal with that don’t go. It’s also Oracle Cloud and at a corporate level the investment is at risk and they’re not fully committed... especially for the data center expenditure and a few significant higher up left over the politics of it all recently. Now that does not affect the team short term and they pay well so...
Who left?
Also interested to know. I don’t know any higher ups that left.
