Looking for experiences of folks who did it. Do you guys like or regret it ? We love Seattle area with our only concern being weather. We love the idea of so many sunny days in Denver area but scared about loosing opportunities by moving over there and if we will feel like we moved to smaller place. We mostly lived on east side. Love Bellevue :) I am on work visa so not sure if there are many companies in Denver that are okay with hiring folks on visa.
Both are fine. Denver has bigger mountains and more Mexican food and significantly less water and East Asian food
Denver has less jobs than Seattle so it’s not something I️ would consider unless I️ really hated Seattle and wanted to leave
Plenty of tech in Denver. Not as much as in Seattle but great area. If you want some sun, come out to Phoenix. Plenty of sun.
Phoenix is truly a melting pot. Flew in from Seattle for a few days and temperature change from 55 to 95 was a nice meltdown. I like Seattle for the summer and the mild winters.
The summer is brutal, there’s no way around it(especially after living in the Santa Monica area for a few years then moving to Phoenix lol). However, I do like the fact that from Halloween to early April’s it’s basically 60-80 degrees every day. We get some cold mornings (30-40 degrees) later in the winter season, but overall this weather is beautiful. I’ll end up in Seattle in a few years as I️ really like the PNW, and want to try out Seattle but yeah, lots of sun here.
Pot here not so good? Seattle has one of the most beautiful summers of the world. Outside that, it really sucks. But you get used to it. Just try to find something fun to do which is not weather depending, of you like skiing also helps. And make sure to take some days off and go to somewhere tropical during winter. Another option , wait for Amazon to announce their HQ2. It may be in a place with better weather.
Unless it's Detroit…
Did the opposite. It is VERY sunny in Denver. Winters are cold, summers are hot. If you like that, great! We prefer Seattle weather :-) Between Denver and Boulder there is a lot of tech work. There is definitely more opportunity in Seattle, but you shouldn't go hungry in Denver.
Denver does seem to be on par in terms of Cost of living. Will state income tax have an impact on the savings ?
Google's Boulder office is growing a lot. Lots of jobs available.
