Architect at ‘no name’ company vs engineer at startup that acquired by FAANG

There are 2 offers. 1. Architect at some public company. Not famous one 2. An engineer at startup that is acquired( but deal hasnt closed yet) by FAANG TC - similar but hard to say what would be TC for offer 2 after the deal closing what would you choose?

Offer 2 sounds sketchy

This. If the aquisition actually happens, there is no guarantee that you will be brought along in any permanent role when the aquisition completes. You have to wonder why they are hiring someone new this close to being aquired and having access to all the FAANG employees.

Dude why why why you would even think about engineer vs architect... unless it’s a 50 person company architect all day... you will learn and grow so much more, that if you ever wanted you could come to the next fang at l6+ and quadruple your comp vs. sticking in a never promotion cycle at fang now

Thank you for your opinion

Architect means nothing

Cisco fesK86 Jul 26, 2019

You’re right it’s so much better to take a spec sheet of requirements and just sit in a cubicle heads down all day to build it, to only rebuilt the entire thing the next day and the next

Care to elaborate?

I’d say go for “FAANG to be” company. You will be leveled by Amazon standards when the deal is closed.

Which one reflects on you more than on your employer?

Shutterfly tnPx47 Jul 27, 2019

What do you mean by reflects?

Oracle alwzangry Jul 27, 2019

Which role shows or defines what YOU are capable of as opposed to identifying you with your employer's brand alone?

Bloomberg Stan Ford Jul 27, 2019

Of course the FAANG-to-be one. Architect... LOL. Who even has that title any more? Future companies will pass around your resume laughing at that obsolete and meaningless title and all they will see is “can’t code”...

Oracle alwzangry Jul 27, 2019

Future companies will pass around resumes from 201* laughing at all leetcoders whose primary expertise would be interviews. Why don't they need architects anymore? "Shouldn't code" isn't the same as "can't code".

You'd learn more in a tech focused company than from a brick and mortar.

Which startup is acquiring FANG?
