Heard that leadership at docker shifted focus to Enterprise to make it cash positive. How do people feel about this? Any preductions on Google or MSFT acquiring Docker especially since IBM bought red hat?
land grab. Heptio 550 mil=> VMware, Coreos 250 mil=>redhat 34bil=>IBM.... I think there is value at Docker, just not sure where it fits at this point. I feel like they would have been better off dumping it a few years ago. They just caught a bad beat in terms of market timing. I don't think the "hire a bunch of Senior SAP, Oracle types" is the best path forward...but we shall see. I just don't see an easy exit there. If anything I would see someone grabbing it to decrease competition and then gut it.
I think docker will not be succcessful. Its a poor man’s VmWare. Standard OSs , and even hypervisors have reduced the problem that docker attempts to solve. Its not a ci/cd pipeline just the intended outcome. And the network interaction and kernel call is too difficult to get perfect. People have reported horror stories trying to debug through the network stack in docker.
