What are we waiting for solving this existential problem? https://www.npr.org/2018/11/23/668555773/climate-change-is-already-hurting-u-s-communities-federal-report-says
Blame the sun. Human involvement is insignificant. Engineer a solution, not red tape.
Solutions are available, but it seems more an incentive issue. That’s where regulations help.
What do you base your “human involvement is insignificant” claim on? You must know by now that the vast majority of people who actually study this as their profession disagree with you.
Humans are historically bad at planning for the future. Couple that with the fact the party in power relishes in their ignorance. Well, there you go.
Sure there are some people that outright deny that the planet is warming but that's a minority. The bigger questions are "what's the realistic impact" and "when is the red line" which models haven't been particularly good at consistently displaying. I'd encourage you to consider that some people aren't ignorant but have different ideas about 1) what the actual impact will be for the majority of the world's population and 2) the proposed methods of "solving" climate change especially considering that specific countries pollute at a much higher rate than others and usually those same countries opt out of any environmental agreements since they would impact their economic growth. I'd encourage people that want to make a change to do it at an individual level since a collective of individuals making small changes to improve the problem will likely be a better program than any government regulations larger scale efforts.
@GisX20 given what is at stake are you really betting on holding any action until we get the perfect model? I agree many in the political right spectrum aren’t ignorant, but they are much worse, they knowingly lie to the American people for their political gains. This administration is purposely blocking any progress and regressing as much as possible.
With this administration ? Yeah, we're suicidal
In more than one ways!
Great, gather all your liberal friends and drink some cyanide.
Me? Just waiting for proof this is actually happening
Try reading literally any science on the topic and stop being a complete idiot.
What’s the solution? You seem to think there’s an obvious solution, so what is it?
Is climate change real? Yup Is carbon emissions to blame? Mostly Will I change / downsize any part of my lifestyle to change things? Nope The only way to solve this is through engineering and science - none of this hand holding hippy shit where you expect me to live more primitively... but greens and democrats never approach it as an engineering problem. It’s always some expectation of shared sacrifice and suffering (IMHO a repeating pattern in their viewpoints). That’s why they fail to win hearts and minds.
I think greens and democrats genuinely think people are at heart thinking of what’s best for the collective and not themselves. Simply doesn’t manifest in reality. It’s why so many of their policies fail
“Will I change / downsize any part of my lifestyle to change things? Nope” That’s part of the problem. We keep buying the shit that required zero “future-thinking” engineering — large homes, large cars, etc. — and we leave the solutions to some unnamed “the sky is falling” savior engineers whose solution won’t be profitable until it’s too late to make a big enough difference. We’re all complicit and if we’re too damned comfortable with our planet-killing standard of living, we deserve our fates.
Lol, so basically we live in an age where we've thrown out Christianity and have replaced it with the new dogma of leftism. Disagree with the following and you will be excommunicated from society: -Men can fully become women and vice versa -If you're white, you're a racist. If you're male, you're a sexist -Forest fires are caused by climate change. Ignore the fact that in the 1970s scientists said we were at the precipice of another ice age
- Transgender people are individuals, each with their own story and identity expression. Fully becoming one thing or another is besides the point. - Nobody worth listening to thinks white = racist. Same goes for male = sexist. There are tons of counter examples. - Your climate change knowledge is out of date. Unless you are keeping up, you should defer to the scientists who do it for a living. The thing about science is that our understanding is always evolving. Using a data point from the 1970s to debunk modern conclusions isn’t a good move, especially when that data point is incorrect and easy to invalidate: https://skepticalscience.com/ice-age-predictions-in-1970s.htm
Also, about Christianity, I’d say we’ve thrown out the parts that are in conflict with our evolving understanding of humanity. All those things Christ actually talked about and taught us (whether he existed or not)? Those are still cool with me.
There are two possibilities IMO. Either: 1) it’s too late, we wrecked the planet. No going back now. At least not in time. Or 2) it’s just a natural cycle. The temperature will keep going up for a 💯k years or so. We need to stimulate the economy as much as possible so that: - in the case of 1): We need to escape to Mars before it’s too late. - in the case of 2): We rebuild our civilizations in a way that can cope with the temperature and rising sea levels. AC everywhere, etc.
I don't like what I'm reading, must be fake news
