I have an interview at Facebook Seattle. Recruiter said at Facebook if you get selected you will choose team after boot camp. If I get an offer can I ask for position at Toronto Canada office? Is there any negative impact in asking that? I am aware that salaries in canada are very less but I have family reasons to move. Current TC: 170K (people usually ask for this here before replying) Edit: does other companies give such choices I.e. Oracle, Uber,Apple, Google,Amazon etc
Facebook doesn’t have an eng office in Toronto
You can’t choose a team in a different location, you can choose a team in boot camp that sits in the office you start in. If you interview in Seattle and start boot camp, you’ll have the choice of teams at that site. If you want to interview for a different location then you should tell the recruiter ASAP. Doing it this way around will elongate and make for a messy process.
If I tell them that I want to interview for canada location and if they don’t have any opening there then they would not even take my interview. If there are no open position in canada then I would stay in Seattle. But I would like to interview. I was thinking of telling recruiter only if I get an offer.
Tell them now. Be open - it won’t affect your interview at all. Not sure why you think it would. They can check with the Canada office and let you know what positions are available. Telling them at the offer stage isn’t transparent and the recruiter won’t appreciate it.
PM me if you would be interested in Amazon canada @Batman007
Don’t know about fb but ours is like 60% of Bay Area pay.
I am totally OK with less pay
It’s much, much less. So much less. Also taxes are higher, and COL is higher.
