Wasn’t asked a single question about HTML, javascript or CSS and interviewer wasn’t even familiar with javascript. Seriously?
Even backend engineers are not asked language specific questions
It seems unfair but these companies are testing for coding "fundamentals", as in concepts that are related to logical thinking instead of language prowess. I think this is because when you join you might not end up even using the language you are most familiar and they need to know you can pick up anything if they need it. At lower level companies they'll ask language specific questions.
It was for a frontend specific position. What about testing for front end fundamentals? In their interview guide they specifically called out these as the kind of things they’d go over in the interview. This kind of thing seems like they are just testing for candidates who have memorized enough Leetcode solutions to get in.
Qwokka. The very reason why we have shittiest web front end for our products
Don't recruiters set expectations on what to expect from the interview? These days recruiters ask interviewee to read cracking the coding interview and use leetcode. Nonetheless, leetcode hard on a phone screen is a dickish move.
Yea they explicitly called out expectations for front end interviews as using vanilla JS and DOM manipulation kind of things. I’m fine with leetcode questions for the most part, but just wasn’t expecting a Leetcode hard question in a phone screen.
Soon it will be asked in elementary school entrance
Which company?
OP answered after I re-asked the question
So sad bro
Yup... That's the world we live in ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
