How much are engineers and researchers (l4-7) at @Waymo, @Zoox, @Cruise, @Argo, @Aurora, @Uber ATG, @Apple Special Projects, @Pony.ai, @Drive.ai, ... making? We are a seed stage startup and are hiring engineers with robotics (SLAM), computer vision, distributed systems background. What are your expectations from a young startup that is working with several AV teams?
As someone who just moved around in the space TC of like 500k makes sense
PhD physics 5 years post with 3 in HAD specifically. Just moved to Uber
Would like to know too, from entry to senior level.
can I apply? backend engineer here
For sure - we need awesome engineers, I am at ag@explorer.ai
What are the best futures for these AV startups? Acquired by bigger companies?
Depends on their model - and moreover the people behind it. I obviously think we are different. But I am biased.
I just finished the interview process, got 4 offers two with (non startup) AV companies two with FANG. My offers were all in the same ballpark, AV or no AV. I didn't find there was a huge premium for AV companies. In fact, Google offered me the most (for ML SWE).
Open to sharing the numbers or range?
My friend tells me that he has base pay of $175k and 15% target bonus + equity worth $1M over 4 years as a senior software engineer at ArgoAI (mountain view) ... not sure about their evaluation
These comps sound a little high for smaller startups - seed/ series <b. I noticed base 130-150 with varying stocks
Frankly I am beginning to feel AV space is also getting into a bubble.
I am certain that in the next 5-10 yrs, autonomous driving is going to be one of the biggest tech innovations at scale, running in production so it doesn’t seem like a “bubble”. I don’t work in the AV space so don’t know their TC but software engineers should have fairly similar comp across top industries and employers as far as I’d imagine
It doesn't make sense to have all these companies doing their own thing when coordinating vehicles seems to make more sense. I envision something similar to at&t back in the beginning of the Telecom industry, where the government allows a monopoly to get the infrastructure built.
