BB vs. MM S&T

Just wanted to get the thoughts and opinions of those in the industry..

I graduated from college just two months ago and currently work for MS (as you can see). However, I don’t find this to be a major advantage since I work in the WM space. With that said, I’m looking to make a transition onto the Sales side of S&T.

Considering my background, I’m not sure if I’ll get much of a second look from BB firms. Nonetheless, I’m still reaching out - including MS.

As for MM firms, Baird, Raymond James, and Wells have been in my radar.

What would you say are the pros and cons of working for a BB or MM in S&T - respectively? Other than the difference(s) in the size of average transactions and prestige.

In addition, any insight into compensation? Especially in regards to Raymond James in St. Petersburg, Baird in NYC, and Wells in Charlotte. NC for Wells and FL for Raymond James have me curious in particular. Simply because I’m not sure what their clientele looks like, or if there are any real opportunities.

Lastly, if anyone has suggestions for other firms that may be worth looking into - let me know! I’m also looking at avenues in Texas.

Thanks.

      I abbreviated longer, more known phrases

      MM = Middle Market
      BB = Bulge Bracket
      MS = Morgan Stanley’s ticker

      And I believe the other abbreviations are just the acronyms for states

    BB or MM in S&T is in secular decline. Go there only if you want to head into a midlife career crisis. No real skills developed and ppl are chasing single digits growth rates.

    Own agency (for tech-enabled low cost PWM incl insurance) or Buy side...diff ball game. That, I'd encourage.

    What kind of sales were you interested in? With your background you could probably break into PWM sales.
