Background check company (BackTrack) emailed SSN of my ex team member?
Wow just wow... I'm naming this company because it's a huge breach in privacy and I hope other background check companies don't do this. I got a call to verify background of one of my ex team members. Was busy so I asked them to email over to my work email and would take care of it. Email came and included the last 4 digits of his SSN. Seriously wtf? Why was that included in the email? I'm appalled and yes while it's not me who is being background checked, this is simply unacceptable. I also hope other background check companies are not doing this sort of nonsense. HR people if you're reading this, please don't contract with this type of companies. Thanks.

You are in HR. You have access to the SSN anyway, do you not? It’s only the last four characters, which is most likely included as a way for you to verify that they researched the right individual by checking if it’s a match to the SSN you have on file. This is a very dramatic way to look at it. Did you email the company and get an explanation from them? What did they say?

Thats last 4 digit of the SSN, not the full SSN, please correct ur title.
Last 4 is bad enough. Lots of verification questions just ask for last 4.
