Best neighborhoods in Austin
I'd be renting and would like to stay close to work (10-15min drive to Jolyville/Round rock ) but not far away from Downtown, UT Austin (20-30 min drive ) . Suggestions ? Open to house sharing in a nicer /pricier neighborhood
All are pretty shit, filthy, and high crime unless you go out a ways like bee cave. Pretty much what you expect from a liberal haven.
Mueller is a still new development where the previous airport was. The design is a bit sterile, and petty crime is rampant (any cute garden decoration, for example, will be stolen). But it’s one of the nicer and more walkable parts of the city. East Austin is still shitty — don’t fall for the false artsy BS. There are areas along the east side where you can sit and watch the drug trade on the streets, and home invasions there are totally normal. The criminals are pretty good at raiding your home when you’re not there, so don’t worry about it too much. Parents in Austin are annoying as shit, seriously the worst I’ve experienced in this country: entitled, mewling, overprotective, overgrown children themselves, just unbearable. Public schools are terrible because of them and the wild mix. Your child’s classroom could melt down because of one child’s shitty parent. Don’t get me started.

If you have kids consider Avery Ranch. If you don’t consider Riata or Domain.
The person who said this area is crime ridden doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Lots of nice rentals in the Domain and Arboretum areas.
Petty crime is bad in Austin, even in the nice areas. Go ahead — put a nice chair on your front porch, maybe a particularly nice planter. See how long it lasts.
Don’t forget to park in your expensive apartment buildings garage where your car will regularly be broken into.
I live in Arboretum, and I love it. Perfect distance to work and downtown for me.
Mueller is where I am and love it. North Burnet, Domain, Arboretum.
