I have been in bay area for a year and i feel this place is ridiculously expensive. Which is best place out of California where you would save good money? By peaceful I mean less commute time, inexpensive living and good workplace. P.S: I am female fresh college grad (full stack JS developer) with internship experience. Please suggest me what are good locations to consider my future opportunities. Thank you.
Minnesota is cheap and has companies like 3M, Thomson Reuters, and Mayo Clinic
It is important to realize that if you leave California, you won't get a California level salary. You may be able to find a more affordable place to live, but it doesn't mean you will be able to save $$$ especially as a new grad. That being said look at places like Austin, Denver, etc. They generally give you a better quality of life, but you will not get a six figure salary for years. Good luck!
Thank you for sharing you thoughts, You are not wrong about salary, i see few cousins of mine they earn six figures but do not save much. 40% taxes then mortgages and so on... What i felt was out of California you can control the expenses to a great extent. Please correct if i am wrong.
You are right, but if you work your way up here you can be clearing 300k+ annually with RSUs before you're 30. The reason housing here is insane is because there are so many software people that can afford it. It just depends on how much you want to dedicate your life to the game.
Search jobs in Portland OR, cost of living is rising since its a fast growing city... but it's still less than half the cost of SF to live comfortably and the salaries are more than half. Worth looking into
San Diego. Don't tell anyone. Trying to keep it one the down low.
That only slightly reduces the housing problem while killing job prospects and not solving the state taxes, higher gas, and other gifts of California CoL.
compare the kind of companies you want, too. working at 3m, does it appeal to you? or do you need to work at new interesting startups?
Not considering startups at this point, public company that has stable growth and job security is what i have been seeking
Of course seattle
Kansas City (Google Fiber has been very good to the area). Cincinnati. Madison, WI.
Kansas City cost of living, California salary. It's nice.
Utah if you don't mind the Mormons
I wouldn't mind that. Thank you.
But I'd recommend getting out here quick if you're going to housing market has been blowing up
