Long story short, Blizzard banned a Hong Kong Hearthstone gamer for saying that he supports Hong Kong protest - not only banned, but revoked his league championship rewards. Blizzard started to get bombarded from the community and closed their official reddit page. Any thoughts?
There was already a topic on this but Iâll reiterate: if you think this canât happen to any other business with ties to China, youâre wrong. Offenses include: 1. Supporting HK protestors 2. Pointing out Xinjiang human rights violations 3. Anything negative about Macau 4. Anything negative about the CCP 5. Recognizing Taiwan as its own country 6. Not respecting Chinaâs âterritorial claimsâ whether or not theyâre recognized by anyone else Accidentally put Taiwan on a countries list? Ban until âfixedâ and apology Employee says anything negative? Ban until fired and apology This has been your lesson on CCP procedures be sure not to violate them
I can sort of sympathize with Blizzard. China is ruthless. If someone at Blizzard decides to take a stand against China, that means theyâre putting potentially billions of dollars in revenue for their company at stake. For example, the Warcraft movie made double its budget in China (over $200 million). That person will be quickly fired and replaced by someone who will bend to the CCPs will.
The integrity of territory is the political correctness in China. US companies should know that when doing business with china. We should also understand different countries have different âpolitical correctnessâ just like US. Do you have the freedom of speech on political correctness issues in US? No.
Yes, if you try making any racist or sexist comments here on a public platform like a post match interview, you will be fked even worse than that guy.
Usually political correctness involves protecting the rights of the disenfranchised from the powerful (though Iâd argue, misguided at times), not the most powerful, ruthless entity in China. Chinaâs âpolitical correctnessâ is PRC propaganda, if you want everyone in the world to respect PRCs crimes against its own people to make money you will find sometimes the world will fall short.
Just like political shenanigans are discouraged in the Olympics. Not the place for it.
I absolutely support boycotting Blizzard over this. Try to get as many people to boycott Blizzard over this as we can. Stand up for democracy and freedom.
Not only gamer, they also banned two casters. completely a joke.
