I have heard that Bloomberg has some old tech stack but have talked and seen they are making great initiatives to correct that. Yet ppl trash talk about it which is sad. Just wanted to see what others feel about it.
I would never work for Bloomberg no matter how hard it tries, or how good a company it is because they're based out of New York -- where your tech career goes to die. Also, they serve financial markets and having worked in multiple finance/fintech companies have realised that engineering is a 2nd class profession in that industry
Don't agree with the point that engineering careers end in NYC
Problem is, blind is full of vally and Seattle people. This breed of people are biased towards companies based in nyc and working in finance domain. Tech company working in finance domain is not a tech company in their opinion.
Hmm good point
Well, they have points
I think too many people focus on companies that are already in a good situation so that they just go in, be comfortable, and get a nice paycheck. People don’t care enough about being given a challenge and improving tech
Change of that kind can only happen with senior leadership strong support. So if you think yourself can change it as IC, you are deluded a big time.
And you can become a leader. Nothing stopping you. Look at all the “bottom of the ladder” workers like Satya Nadella (Microsoft), Brian Dunn (Best Buy), or Jim Skinner (McDonalds). Hell, Richard Montanez used to be a janitor at Frito Lay but now he’s an executive Vice President. Point is, if you want to make a change as an IC, yeah, you can, you just gotta put in a lot of work.
