Hello fellow people from Boston (Bostonians? Bostonites?). Are you looking for a place to buy this year? If so, what areas are you looking at? (Bonus points if you say something other than the usual suspects like Newton, Lexington, Wellesley, Concord etc)
Brookline is probably on the top of a list - green line and convenient commute, great schools. But it’s really expensive
Yeah, my wife and I just bought a place in Brookline. Good schools and you get Boston with out actually being in the city limits.
I won't work in Boston due to the terrible commutes, unreliable public transit, and ridiculous cost of housing. I live an hour outside the city and would have to triple my mortgage to move halfway closer. It's even more than that if I wanted to live in the city and I'd by cutting my sq. Footage in half and sharing walls in some condo.
Waltham is good in between with strictly ok schools.
Belmont. Red line to Cambridge via Fitchburg bypass, good schools.
Depends on your budget, family kids/no kids and what you are looking for - single family, condo etc
Single family, w/ kid (1 yo), need good schools. Budgets a bit iffy right now, first time home buyer, so balking a bit at the 1M price tags for places we like. Double income (~$350k) so we an pull through if it’s a really nice place for 1M.
Yeah 1M budget is small for good single family in Brookline or Newton. Maybe you can buy an old house in Newton and put money into renovation. Another option would be to move into north shore, like Lexington or Bedford. BTW, with 350K income you can probably afford 1.2-1.3M houses
