Its just another great year, on surface. Received a personalized note with fat bonus and stock grant numbers. I feel empty. Thinking about walking away from work and take some time off. No visa constrains , decent savings , no big liabilities. Only fear that ,it won't be easy to return back to work. Why do I feel this way? No passion left to do anything at work
Seems like fake to me.
What process do you use to determine real posts?
You feel that way because you know it's not worth it to piss your life away doing senseless work for a heartless corp in exchange for any fat paycheck and that you are replaceable like everyone else. Some of that golden handcuff money should be spent buying the world's smallest violin.
Because you know that there is a dude in Texas that makes 10% of you, working at McDonald’s, yet has a better and more fulfilling life.
Not working does not mean sitting, doing nothing and rotting. You can take a break and learn some entirely new area be it biology or creative writing. You can travel and see the world. Take and bike and cycle across the states. You can just go to the forest or mountains live simple and be with nature. Life is so much more than staring at the monitor. You need other things than work in your life.
Living with a small indigenous native tribe in the mountains of Mexico and learning mezcal distillation from the local palenqueros is my dream outside of my many responsibilities.
You could be having clinical depression. The symptoms are similar to what I had a few months ago. I had to push myself to work everyday and management had started noticing my low motivation level. Talk to a psychologist or psychiatrist. A very low dose mood stabilizer did wonders to me.
Sounds like you’ve joined the ranks of the disillusioned. You don’t need medication or a therapist. Take a chunk of time off, lower your spending so you can do so, spend some time away from the routine, and see whether you want to come back at some point or not.
Thank you for the ideas. I will post what I would do soon.
I think your next employer will understand and could even be excited to hire you if you sell it in the right way.
How would you sell it? I left burned out and just feel discouraged
