Thoughts on this role in terms of job satisfaction, compensation, perks and WLB? Have an interview coming up with Deloitte. Graduated college last year and been working in tech. Kind of ambivalent to moving away from being super technical to less so (I assume I will still be a bit technical as Business tech analyst) since I eventually would like to move into management. What are thoughts of people who worked as BTAs or chose to steer clear of working as BTA?
Many of the BTAs I knew ended up doing PMOâmaking slide decks and updating tracking spreadsheets. Some were able to do more technical stuff either through luck or networking.
God, not PMO. OP, avoid PMO at all costs. Kill yourself, if you have to. But avoid.
What is PMO? đ
PMO is an unfortunate position, but necessary on large projects. Try working with your manager to enrich the position by asking for additional responsibilities. Ultimately, itâs a role that unknown variables often get put into - if you prove youâre smart and can add values in other ways to the project, your role will morph away from it.
Iâm an SM at Deloitte and started as a BTA so perhaps a bias response here - 1. Anyone with technical skills is GOLD, so if you are technical and thatâs what you want to do, a manager or SM would be an idiot to have u do PMO. 2. That being said ur bill rate is like 4x an offshore coder so itâs not the best value add for you nor is it the best for your career to only code all day - more likely youâll get a module you own and be responsible for requirements and technical design to handoff to offshore for build then youâll verify the build with testing and perhaps help troubleshoot. 3. Itâs going to depend on the group that youâre in. Some groups are flush with talent and others are desperate for people. The more desperate or understaffed groups will have larger staffing opportunities. Ultimately you can control your career as you build a network within deloitte - I know we make it sound like a dirty word but basically youâll get a clique of people you like running with and theyâll want to keep u happy by giving you work you like - assuming youâre good
