Assuming I diversify by buying ETFs or index funds through Vanguard, does it make sense to buy individual stocks for speculative gambling with say 10% of my investments?
Index funds => marriage Stocks/Coins => one night stands Pick your poison :)
I’ve been buying fang (minus Netflix) the last couple years and I’ve been killing the market. That being said I may switch to just invest in the s&p 500 soon
Buy some $RAD before AMZN acquires them.
After 401k, Roth IRA (if you are eligible) I would put money in stocks. Probably good to balance it out between funds and stocks that you love.
Anyone can backdoor a Roth IRA
I read about it but did not try it yet.
Individual stocks is not a speculative gambling. Speculative gambling is trading options, trading on margin, trading crypto, etc. Individual stocks will be more volatile then your typical Vanguard fund, but potentially have better returns. Give it a try and see if it’s something you’re willing to do.
If you diversify, buy based on fundamentals, and buy greater than 20 or so, stocks are not much more speculative than index funds.

Its unlikely you will outperform your index funds over the very long term. That being said I just made $7000 on a bitcoin in like 5 days...
