Most of my experience in Data Science/ML is limited out of the 9 yrs of Data Analytics. Recently finished a 9 months intensive data science course. And have been interviewing for the last 3 months, with little success in getting an offer. I have numerous (~25) first rounds/phone interviews, with just 3 on sites and no offers. I have a good amount of success in drawing attention with my resume and LinkedIn profile. And can convert most of these recruiter calls to the first round of interviews. But can't convert them much further. From what I can guess, here are some of the places where I have failed. - Explaining the nuances in different algorithms or techniques. Like the effects of outliers on different algos or different algos for gradient descent. - Another problem is, working through production level details of an ML case study or using the right lingo while explaining it. I understand reading and practice can help and so need recommendations on below, - A good source of real-life ML project with some production challenges. A lot of the sources give basic or high-level information but are short on details. - Any recommendations on problem-solving in software engineering or in general problem-solving. - What kind of questions should you be asking to be better prepared for the next rounds? - How would you prepare for an interview, given the job description and business information?
In terms of your resume, you should check out Jobalytics (link: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/jobalytics-resume-keyword/fkiljfkkceaopbpfgfmjdnkiejaifkgd?utm_source=blind&utm_medium=social&fbclid=IwAR1OWWhbqbYPPQjze_2Du2qUCZ2UtcIjz4OXOIjaUzJJarBDqOD6uNXgFUY) -- a FREE chrome extension that can identify missing keywords from your resume based on the job description page. Most companies use application tracking systems to filter out resumes -- if you have the adequate keywords that reflect your skills and also match the job descriptions of the roles you're applying for, it could help you tremendously in the resume-screening part of job searching. Good luck!
Has jobalytics helped you/or some one you know? Just curious!
These “rules” are helpful when working with the complexity of production ML products. https://developers.google.com/machine-learning/guides/rules-of-ml
Thanks hodiecfykv.......is there any recommendations or guide to building a real life ML problem solving? That you might have come across?
I think everything is still pretty bespoke these days. This recent post has a good overview of the state of the industry: https://vicki.substack.com/p/were-still-in-the-steam-powered-days
Can you share tips on how to get those First round calls for ML/DS ?
