10 years old and has 75k miles on it. got damaged at the front in a small accident... Like bumper and a very small part of hood. Its drivable and can be repaired easily.. Insurance company says cost of repair is high so they can total it and give me total value but i insisted on repair because it still has lot of life in it.. Repair is cheaper to me but it will have damage reported on it. So to me total seems better option in long term but feel like just get it repaired and keep using it because i see lot of old and damaged cars running on road anyway.. Should i go for total.. Take money and buy another or insist on repair? Please suggest.. TC: 220k
Option 3 take the money and drive it until it can’t drive
Take the money ... But it again for $200 or $300.... Repair it and drive till it dies
Fuck all old cars. I loved my old hunker, but had to sell before a move. Bought a brand new German car. Will never go back. Looking back, that old car was a true PITA
Since you have had the car for 10 years and is at the low end of mileage, take it to a shop that will fix it without totaling the car. If you can waive some aspects of the repair, I would say go for it. New cars these days are shitty AF. This includes bimmers and Mercs.
Compare the options...if you want to drive it for too long ...better take money from insurance & get it repaired yourself ...you’ll probably save 40% of what insurance quotes for repairs. If you’re thinking of keeping car for short term like 2-3 years...better get rid of it.
If you need to have a “rebuilt title” because of this crash then don’t repair it
Time for a Model 3
Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. Total value is actually little above kbb value.. They see how much is the same car if you have to buy from dealer.. Not sell price so this is good.. I'm waiting to see when insurance company finalize it.. I've to now research what car to buy...
