This is for my friend who was a passenger in Uber that had no insurance and got into accident. So he reported it to Uber but Uber is not getting back to him with real solution. Thank you.

I was in an Uber accident on Feb 22, 2018. I reported this to Uber via app, and was refunded for my ride and was given the driver's insurance information.

To file a initial claim, I called the insurance company only to find out that the insurance policy was terminated as of November 2017.

When I confronted Uber with this issue, they gave a reply that they will look into it and has been MIA since. Everytime I write, they just give me a reply
that they are looking into this issue and ask for my patience.

I am extremely frustarated that Uber would hire uninsured drivers and place its users at risk. Can anyone assist with this issue?

Welcome to Uber. You won’t get anything out of them.

Uber sucks - sadly uber and lyft are the only options - it’s like that’s the only option, that’s why they play with you. Uber is a big corrupt monopoly

I don’t see how this comment contributes anything. This could happen with any ridesharing company or taxi. Insurance gets checked periodically by all rideshare platforms or taxi and limousine commission. Any driver on platform could let insurance lapse between checks.

Doing real world business is hard. Unlike dumping another shitty version of Skype that fails on Windows.

The company should be able to help, but they’re most likely taking time to investigate the driver’s insurance situation. What most likely happened is that the driver started while he had insurance and Uber wasn’t notified of the termination. I know how frustrating it can be to wait and if they don’t hear back by EOW PM me the email address associated with their Uber account and I can try to escalate.

What is your friend claiming exactly? Personal injury? Material damages?

Short answer -- get them to have a lawyer draft a letter and they should hear back pretty quickly.

Personal injury. He wants to visit a chiropractor and get reimbursement on the fee.

Then he should visit a Dr or chiro ASAP and talk to a lawyer

Or you can always leak this in the media and have Uber reach out to you

Unfortunately I do not know anyone who works in media companies. I just want to help my friend not creating a big hassle out of it. If you can refer someone in the media, that could be another option. I didnt get any Uber employee’s contact who might be able to help him yet

Was a police report filed? Law enforcement can contact lert@uber.com if they need any trip / driver information. Driving without insurance carries a very heavy penalty and if that driver was doing so, he shouldn’t have been operating on the platform. That said, I believe drivers can go through James River Insurance company if they choose to pay the $1000 deductible. Your friend may want to pursue legal action if they want things to be expedited.

Lert@uber.com or alert@uber.com? Please confirm. Thank you. I heard there are many uber drivers with no proper insurance. (Easy to fake it)

Please don’t send this to our LERT team, it’s not something they handle & they’re not staffed to deal with insurance claims. We have an entire safety & insurance org dedicated to help with these types of things.

Please follow the suggestion above from Duo. Best course of action is to escalate through our Support team who are likely investigating with the insurance experts already.

Not really working. He is getting the same reply and it is not going anywhere. Probably if it doesn’t work by Mon, he will find a lawyer to handle the matter.

    • Uber support is seriously understaffed and can’t handle all the incoming issues. Get a lawyer is best advice. Also, stop taking Uber and Lyft because bottom line is its not safe and you wont get help if you get hurt. There is less driver screening than what regular taxis go through. Imagine of your friend had been raped, this is how uber would handle it.

I guess so. My friend will find a lawyer and handle this matter through him/her. Thank you.

We do have an internal claims team. But...if your friend was given the drivers insurance information, he was definitely a commercial driver. Therefore our insurance partners would not be noticed. Sorry to say, he may be SOL.

Edit: just saw this was in NY so yes, driver was commercial. May be worth contacting the TLC.

Uber’s James River Insurance company is, literally, the worst. I’m not sure there’s much hope for help without a lawyer.

To date I am not aware of any Uber ‘insurance org’ because all insurance issues are deferred to James River.
