I'm heavily considering changing careers to SWE. There are tons of opportunities and the pay is much to be desired. Looking for advice on the best way to get started. I'm more than willing to put in the time and the hard work to get there, just looking for guidance on the best place to start. I've been browsing through Blind and noticed a lot of people mention LeetCode. Is that the best way to start learning? Is there anything else I'll need to learn or obtain? I was thinking of going back to school and getting a Masters in SWE, but how necessary is that? I'm extremely motivated and want to give myself the best chance. Background info: Currently in Seattle BS Aeronautics 3 yoe Project Management PMP certified (i know this is a joke to y'all) TC ~90K Appreciate your input!
I just started a masters in data science for this reason. I met a few other students doing the same and I think we motivate each other. Some students seem to have a lot of experience so it is depressing but at least you’re all studying the same material.
good luck!
watch MIT ocw videos to learn the basics
Leetcode is for interviews, not really a place to learn anything meaningful
Okay I'll check out Udacity and look into bootcamps first then. Thanks!
Wonder what will happen to other industries if lot many people become software engineers for the money.
Do it. There are a million options but you're not going to do it alone. Most people don't have the drive. Pay for an online program that exclusively focused on jobs. like Udacity or one of those bootcamps. They don't teach you shit but it'll get your foot on the door.
Master degree imo is a waste of time.
Awesome, thanks so much. I've also been seeing that certifications aren't really a big deal in the industry either. I'll just need to make sure I have the knowledge and can pass the interviews it seems like. Is that correct?
