Career advice - 4yoe, ML/Vision

I have an MS and have worked in startups before joining Intel (not US). Currently working on hot product area but don't see a long future here because my manager lacks direction. My main area of expertise is computer vision with hw and sw. Should I look for internal transfers to better roles or try to get into core research jobs or just get a PhD?

what is your main skillset

Rn I'm mainly working on the sw application and libs for vision. And deep learning models for our problem statement.

Move to US

Visa seems to be an issue.. Don't get calls from companies I apply, even with internal referrals. Any suggestions?

Do a second masters. Or start a PhD drop out in two years and convert to masters. Not sure which country you are in. But there are lots of opportunities here. Can you not ask intel to apply for H1b?

+1 to IOGD88 suggestion

Do something that others are Not. Everyone seems to be jumping on the ML bandwagon... Big mistake

Check out Intel Labs or Movidius. Overall, not sure if you find will find anyone with much strategic direction for computer vision or Data Science. Intel is more about selling computer chips vs really developing cool data science capabilities.

Do you have 4yoe in ML ? How did you get in so early ? It was barely known back then. As far as I know research jobs aren't well paid except for a few companies that go hard after ML like Google and Facebook. If you're from Israel, as I suspect, there are a lot of companies in the field of Vision there. Not sure about ML but they are too smart not to have them. A lot of bigger and smaller companies in the US are developing own hw for ML: Tesla, MS, Cerebras. It's hard to advise you to come to Intel in the US. It might not be worth financially.

I've done research in vision which requires a lot of optimization methods, basically ML. 2 yoe in DL now. Btw, not from Israel :) and Isaerli companies get most of their talent at home, so that's ruled out. Tbh I come from ECE background but wouldn't want to work much on the hw side, sw gives a lot of power at the fingertips. Is it possible to shift internally to Santa Clara tho? I don't care about the money if the work is good.

You'll care about the money when you see new grads working on CRUD stuff making more than you at Intel and being able to save more money or live a better lifestyle.

Stay back in your country. Become a lead of at least 3 engineers. Come to US through L1A. Get a GC as soon as possible. Otherwise dont come at all. H1Bs are being screwed all over. And mind you, even PhDs are being rejected in EB1.
