Choosing between Amazon and Microsoft Internship offer
I have two offers for the summer: 1) Amazon SDE internship in Vancouver 2) MS softeng internship in Seattle I worked in Microsoft previously for the garage program and I left with a pretty good impression since it was basically like a startup environment/ incubator. However, I know that full time work would be a lot more different (a lot more chill and less decision making power). I want to eventually work in the States so I don't mind staying with the MS offer but I'm going to be on a team that has a lot of legacy code which also have a lot of issues. I feel like I could learn a lot more at Amazon and have a better experience because their tech stack is better. It would also look better on my resume because I have a more varied experience. Problem is, I've already signed the Microsoft offer but I'd prefer the Amazon position for the summer. I don't want to burn any bridges but none of the firms are letting me defer their offer. Should I stick with Microsoft? Or should I reneg on the offer for Amazon? Is it worth it? Edit: Thank you guys for all the input :) I've decided to stay with the MS offer
Microsoft for fun. Amazon for learning. YMMV
Canadian expat here. Come to Seattle early in your career. Salaries are very high , so it's definitely to your advantage to come early, save as much as possible and have some cash for investment when the next recession hits. Plus Seattle is decent, Vancouver is close. You can meet friends for hiking or camping half way.
If you reneg, be sure you don’t want to work there for the foreseeable future as it may blacklist you.

Working on legacy code will give you a much more realistic taste of what working anywhere will be like.
Go to Microsoft. Better company to work at for software, better location, and better new grad return intern offers from what I've seen.
Always pick US. You will be surprised the difference it makes.
I love Microsoft. Hard to imagine working anywhere else.
