Currently in Austin with my wife. She is starting her PhD at UT in a program she really likes. 2.5 YOE Current Offer A: TC 150k Austin Offer B: TC 250k Bay Area Both are great companies and good teams. What would you choose?
What's the comp breakdown?
A is all cash. B is like 160 cash and 90 RSU.
Does company B have office in Austin? Is transferring back to Austin / remote work a possibility? Have u tried negotiating offer A? Other than money, what about the work itself, culture and management style, quality of teammates, future career growth upsides, and exit opportunities?
No
Both laid back companies and a lot of opportunities.
Unless you hate your wife you only have one valid option.
Just a offer came up that I didn’t anticipate.
Stay with your wife I'd say. Renting a separate unit, especially with Bay area cost of living, will eat up most of that extra 100k.
Turn down the other offer on good terms, let them know that wife really wants to pursue her Masters at UT and want to be supportive. You'll be able to reach back out when you're ready
Choose to be with the girl, companies will always be there - she might not 😉
Dude...she’s my wife....not my gf but yeah...happy wife happy life I guess.
Well, I don't mean to be rude, but lots of people have lost their wives either through divorce or emotionally. Both are horrible 🤷🏽♂️
Austin Mexican food is way better in Texas
That's tex mex not mexican
🙄
PhD takes long time to complete. You are not going to want to stay apart for the entire duration of the program anyway. Stay in Austin. UT Austin is an excellent school.

Can wife transfer schools?
Pretty hard and UT is a great school.
It's not worth living apart for the duration of the program. I'd stay in Austin for her program. Talk it over with her ($250 SF is like $175 Austin).
