I’m a SWE. Recruiter is making me share my comp expectations and is shut as a clam on what they offer/ their budget. Besides glassdoor and paysa, any other places where I can do research on comp for specific companies? One situation is a startup in series B. Another is a public company but stock is trading kind of low. What should I expect with 9 yoe? Need help and no trolls please. Thanks. Not tagging any company as I don’t want to expose them.
Anchor high say you target that TC from a totally monetary standpoint but You will consider all aspects of any offer and position. Or just say cool sounds like you guys may be the ones who can give me that $ figure package I’ve been looking for.
Depend on which startup tho. If the public company isn’t gonna offer u much stock then don’t even consider it with ur 9yoe
I have seen this go both ways. For example, I gave an honest but high number to a mid-stage company several years back before I joined Amazon. I was at the offer stage, told them I was looking for 300-400k and the recruiter said "oh... that's much more than we were looking to pay". They then ghosted on me. This was for a Director level role, reporting to the CTO - a company with multi-hundred million dollar revs that had been around for years, and in the Bay Area. Anyway, I guess the lesson is - if they ghost on you when you tell them an honest number of what you would like then they can get effed.
If you absolutely have to share comp expectations, going much over your actual expectations is good
