https://www.nytimes.com/2019/11/14/nyregion/uber-new-jersey-drivers.html I’m a frequent traveller and my life without Uber would be BAD, especially in most countries where taxi experience sucks. Uber is already losing > $5B a year and I’m afraid of the domino effect this may have. What if Uber gets hit with billions of dollars in fines. Can they even afford to pay? Is there a chance Uber would actually fail to the level where they’ll shut down the business?
Uber is going down hill
Damn I bought a bunch of stocks today.
It will actually be a big loss to everyone if Uber and other gig economy companies shut down. Do you really want to go back to taking cabs and do those who work their own hours think they can earn anything close to what they do now ? Its just madness.
What we need is a sustainable taxi model where drivers can earn a living and cities are not over congested. Does Uber fit in.. I don't know
What is a sustainable model ? Maybe Uber needs to increase its prices ? Which will reduce number of ppl taking Uber and less employment for drivers. Let the market find its equilibrium. By asking Uber to treat drivers as employees, the drivers are killing the golden goose
A big legal decision going against them could bankrupt the company. A la PG&E. Definitely a possibility.
Can cut costs to the point where it will be profitable on razor thin margins. It’s just not that appealing of a company to work for at that point which is why everyone is leaving
The $649 million fine is JUST New Jersey right? What if other states follow suit?
If you are so worried you should pay more and don’t use coupons etc - wait for surge and then go
A counter argument to how the poll is trending, Yahoo had a huge customer base and user data. They didn’t technically shut down the business but they’re pretty much dead.
Damn, shots fired at Uber comparing them to Yahoo. That's some real shade fam
Yahoo was really cool once upon a time.
