I am quite comfortable in my one on one conversations, or in discussions in small groups of 4/5 people. But when that group becomes slightly larger, I start becoming very conscious. Needless to say the stress and uneasiness get amplified when I am on a stage. I know there are tons of videos and courses online, but I want to know what really worked for people who had similar problems.
Imagine everyone naked
What helped me was knowing that it was me judging myself , others were never judging me. Because ppl mostly admire those who struggle yet stay on the stage. I remember a girl at my previous company whose voice would shake on the stage , and i saw her doing this three time, and i dont recall any negative feedback for her. Just today i talked in front of about 40 folks, my heart was racing again, but i could talk because i knew they are not judging me. Also no matter what, talk slow.
These are great points! Tx.
I struggle with it too. If I have to talk to anything over 5 people, I try to avoid it as much as I can. My mind constantly tells me to take a sick leave. It's like a dreadful day that I keep thinking about before, during, and after it happens. I have no idea what to do, it's like my weakest point.
Toastmasters
Honestly, my industry they all use beta-blockers. (Biz(Fed Contractors) and politics, most candidates take those for Rally's and speeches. Sometimes Modafi and Beta Blockers I've seen useful in practice. Hims has very low dose beta-blockers for like $20. A lot of the time I've seen people use them for only short term to build their confidence with groups and then they are good for life.
self-conscious performance-anxious but ambitious AF high-performer in me says: WANT!!!!! medical nerd says: BE CAREFUL. dont take prescription drugs w/o talking to a doc first.
Well the great thing is, Hims will indeed go over that with you, their physicians over the phone.
Practice speaking in front of a mirror.
It only makes you comfortable in front of the mirror
There are some people who just naturally love speaking in front of crowds or being center of attention, but for everyone else, it just takes experience to become comfortable with it. The more often you face your fears, the quicker you get over those fears and it just becomes natural
My coach taught me to tell myself ’ I own the place and bring a gift to everyone’ before getting on stage or in front of big audiences. Works as wonders!
Same here...I get really nervous and lose my train of thought
It's mostly adrenaline. Lookinti beta-blockers. It likely will help
