Why would you use a consulting or agency service, for anything?
Consulting resources are (relatively) to ramp up and down so you can scale to the demand. They can also be used for "try and buy" screening to filter potential candidates for full time offers.
Or maybe because there is a skills gap in your organization or in your geographic region. Or because it's actually cheaper in the long run, for short term projects, than to hire someone temporarily.
Scale and skills. Cheaper in long run if you don't need the resources in perpetuity.
Do you buy a car, if you need it only for one month a year tops, and can rent?
I'm in consulting. Companies hire us because of our expertise. In our case this has nothing to do with trying to save money because of the short-term projects. We have been working with some clients for over 15 years. We bring expertise, which companies may lack in-house or don't want to have in-house. For example, building a BI solution, evaluating architecture, etc. Technology landscape changes rapidly, so they don't have time to ramp up fast enough and it takes time to build up an experienced team. Sometimes that's what we help with as well. We bring in resources, interview them and also train the client's team. Some "consulting" companies do provide people for temporary projects but I wouldn't call it consulting but rather staff augmentation.
Been full time consultant for 10 years. Same experience with long term clients. We do things they need based on experience and continual education. Quality and Regulatory for medical devices and IVD.
Why would you want the expertise of someone who has not only done this before but has done it for several years? If you do not want the results do not pay for them.
Seems like there's a TON of consulting firms in DC.
I wonder why K street has so many consulting firms on how to work with the US government? It's like people pay money to understand how to get more money by doing business with the Federal Government. Crazy how a persons knowledge and skills are paid for a profit.
I am exploring a consulting side hustle for SMB customers to help them with sales and marketing. If anyone would be willing to share your thoughts on a call I would appreciate it!
When you have more money to give away! Or you don't know what you are doing!
