I am applying for full time SWE positions as a senior in college. I am looking at quant trading firms, and am not sure what is expected of a cover letter. Is it necessary? Is there a good place to see an example of what is typically in a good cover letter? (also any other advice is helpful)
I think it can help, if you have describe your relevant coursework and projects, and internships if you have them
Used in EU not in USA
If possible, ask a recruiter if a cover letter is necessary. At most large companies that get lots of applications, cover letters don’t get read, but there are exceptions.
Honestly. I know that cover letters aren't really a thing in tech, but I'm going to start including one -- I'd like to tell the story of my experience that might be missed in my resume to give an idea of leveling expectations.
I’d imagine this is true about the other firms too, but cover letter really isn’t necessary at JS
Not needed! In all honesty nobody reads cover letter, maybe recruiters and hiring managers, but not the teams who is actually going to hire you
Hiring managers read them. And they are available for anyone on he interview loop to read, which they will if they aren’t lazy.
